January ended +$2,140

Though the month of January 2008 is gone and will never, ever happen again, I didn’t take full advantage of it like I should have.  Why you ask?  Because there’s only going to be one year 2008 unless Jesus comes back and the religious zealots start that damn calendar all over again.  Oh.. why didn’t I take full advantage of it you mean?

There is rarely a day that goes by that I can admit to having taken full advantage and enjoying it the most possible for me.  Now, compile that day not being the best ever times 31 and you can see that as a month goes by, there are many missed opportunities.  So who gives a flying F?

So here are the totals for the month of January.  I think that best way to look at this is to think that I’m posting on this website to share my experience with some people, along with the monetary value of losing money monthly to host this site.  Eventually there will be like 5 readers of this site and they will almost be enough for me to get a sponsor to put an advertisement on this site, unless the GOOG ads, which will pay :-)

70 = total options traded during the month
$7.50 = average option bought
$8.05 = average option sold
$.055 = average profit in dollars per contract
11.82% = average percentage profit per contract
$2,140 = profit in dollars for the month of January

I managed to buy $24,710 worth of contracts (and sell them for $26,990) .  Now unless I’m able to increase the amount of contracts I’m buying/selling or the profit percentage, I might take well over a year to make $100,000.  I’m not patient enough to take that long.

My best options trade for the month was the AAPL Apr08 $120 puts, which gained me a 70% profit on investment.  Of course, they would be up over $380% right now if I were smart enough to have held them.

The worst trade would be the ESLR Jan08 $17.50 calls, which cost me $970 when I sold them at a 49% loss.  Ouch.

That’s enough recap, I’m sure that if you are still reading this it’s a bed time story and you are trying to put yourself to sleep.

January is over.  Profit was $2,140.  What did you make in January?

  1. Congrats!

I wasn’t actually confident about you making that much profit this month, but I’m glad you did!

What did I make in Jan? -800$, no more forex for me for a while [even closed my alpari account], I want to try my “luck” with stocks, somewhere around July.

  2. Wow, planning something out in July sounds pretty far away. I’m pretty sure that I couldn’t even tell you what country I’ll be in when July arrives. Good luck to you in July.. if you have any tips or guesses on a stock before than, let me know!

  3. Thanks!

I’m not sure which country I’m going to be in July either, it is just that I’m selling a house in July, so I will definitely have money then… and a will to invest.

Tips or guesses… I hope I will have at least a decent understanding of the market by then. =]
